Academic PaperThe National Elder Abuse Incidence Study, conducted in 1996 was the first major investigation of mistreatment of the elderly in the United States. It found that 449924 persons aged 60 years or older had been physically abused, or neglected in some way. Ten years later and data showed that abuse of the elderly is still prevalent.
